Happy Grandparent's Day to all the Silver Superheroes out there!

older lady and little girl

Grandparents Day takes place this Sunday 4th October. This is a day to celebrate the importance of our Granny’s and Grandad’s and the special place they have in our lives While Grandparent’s Day may not  have the same hype as Mother’s Day or Father’s Day,  at Hourglass, we want to recognise the contribution grandparents play in our lives.

During the last four months,  Hourglass has been running its Silver Superheroes Campaign to encourage people to celebrate and pay tribute to the older people most important to them. Especially during these difficult times when many older people have been living in isolation, COVID19 keeping them apart from their families and friends, it has been more important than ever to keep connected with our older loved ones and remind them of the valued place they hold.

Hourglass has  asked you to share your video tributes to the inspirational and influential older people in your lives and we want to thank everyone who has got involved. Some people wanted to share with us how much they were missing their grandparents whilst we were in isolation,  while others talked about their grandparents who sadly are  no longer with us. Whatever their reason and whatever their age or profession, Granny’s and Grandpas have played or continue to play an important part in their lives.

Although we heard about influential teachers, parents and friends, people’s Silver Superheroes were more often than not, grandparents. So, on this Grandparents Day 2020, a year that’s been so challenging for many of our older people, we would like to take this opportunity to share again tributes to those people we call Nanna, Nanny, Granny and Grandmas and to our Gramps, Granddads and Grandpas – those special people who helped forge who we are today and who are our own very special and much loved Silver Superheroes.
