Jess Phillips MP calls for action

Jess Phillips MP has joined Hourglass this Safer Ageing Week in calling on the Home Secretary and the UK Government to take urgent action against the abuse of older people, as new findings reveal 2.7m older people across the UK experience abuse and neglect.

‘This week is Safer Ageing Week, an initiative by Hourglass, the charity combating the abuse of older people across the UK.

They’ve recently published new data and it is shocking. They’ve found that 2.7 million people in the UK have been abused as an older person - that’s one in 5 people over 65.

They’ve written to the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, detailing these results and calling on the Government to take urgent action to protect some of the most vulnerable in our society. I fully support their call and urge the Home Secretary to respond.

Older people need our support during these dark times and I am happy to support Safer Ageing Week and bring this unthinkable issue to the fore.’
